Boldmere rd. Sutton Coldfield / Treat st

TREAT STREET.

I have been visiting my son and his family in Birmingham this weekend and it is becoming a tradition that I go with the grandchildren to a unique cafe/sweet shop on the local  Boldmere high street, called TREAT STREET.
I actually think it is me rather than the boys who enjoys these treats more, the place fascinates me, maybe reminds me of the sweetie shop when I was a child and I was allowed to go and choose ten penny sweets.  I loved the smells and the colours and the promise of treats to come.  I think the owner has caught on to a very good idea.
The owner , Jane told me that the idea started with a pancake van for her partner and a toffee shop for her and somehow the idea to combine the two just happened when she bought the property. The whole family now help out with this successful business.
This child friendly place is an old fashioned toffee shop, with bottles of sweets lining the walls, a display of  hand  made chocolates,  and tables where you can sit and chose form a menu  of ice cream, sundaes , proper milk shakes with all kind of toppings, waffles pancakes, scones jam , cup cakes, slushies, teas, indulgent hot chocolate and coffees.

DIL had scone and tea, Son P had  Ice cream Sundae, grandson M had ice cream and grandson J and I had panckes with hot chocolate fudge sundae sauce. With drinks The whole bill only came to £12 50p!
We had a great discussion about the difference between pancakes and crepes and I said that crepes are thinner than British pancakes and American pancakes are smaller and thicker than both.
The business is a great success and really the place is too small, despite their extending into the small back yard.  The also have  birthday partys and Occasional magic and puppet shows for free.

My inner child was furhter satisfied by a Saturday morning visit to the cinema to watch Ice Age 4.
I love being a Grandma!

  1. What a delightful store – I'd almost make the trip over the pond to visit that one!! LOL! Your grandsons are so cute – I'm sure they enjoyed the treats with Grandma! And the nice thing about being "Grandma" is that one gets to see those fun movies! Glad you had such a nice day!

  3. Denise, If being in Paris for Bastille Day would have meant that you would have missed going to the sweet shop with your grandsons, I can easily say that you made the right decision! You look absolutely radiant sitting next to M & J. Your son and his family must look forward to your visits with a great sense of anticipation.
