So we have a new prince!
Baby Cambridge came into the world on 22nd July 2013 at 1624h. One of the hottest day of the years.
We are told she had three obstetricians care for her, ..where were the midwives?…….can’t really see these distinguished gentlemen rubbing her back, gently encouraging her when she felt she couldn’t go on any more, mopping her brow and helping her onto a bedpan!
Congratulations to the new parents and family.
I love the Royal family….. In the UK, many people are ambivalent, although popularity is growing and there is also a strong anti Royalist element. People object to the cost of Royalty and the privileged they enjoy.
….but my take is that, every country has to have a head of state for ceremonial purposes, who represents that country and lots of money is spent on that role anyway.
For me I would rather have an hereditary family in that role, brought up to do the job who has no political power, a person who has been trained from birth to fulfil that role and has a sense of duty, than an elected often ambitious individual who has a sense of their own importance.
I would also rather our politicians get on with the job of organising the economy and the laws than be bothered with meeting foreign dignitaries and opening hospitals.
As to privileged, well the price they pay for this is absolutely no privacy, no real control over their own destiny. I only get a bit rattled when they abuse that privileged.
However, after a fairly low key British media attention during the pregnancy, was it really necessary for the BBC to cancel programmes that evening and again the following morning for shots outside the Lyndo wing and Buckingham palace?
NOTHING was happening and they could have easily cut to outside the Lyndo wing if anybody had emerged.
Still Kate and Wills seem like a rather nice ordinary couple. He , to his credit, is a rescue helicopter pilot and has a useful job in life. Harry has spent two tours of duty on the front line in Afghanistan. Seems like they are trying to do the best they can despite their birth.
Good luck to them all.
As to names….I am rooting for Louis. Both Father and grandfather have it in their names…. and it ‘s a bit like Louie, my grandson. We already have a William.
Then how about, Max, Joseph or Finley? or Bodie Tom or Alfred?

Congratulations to those who care! At times it seems unbelievable that in the 21st. century we still have kings, queens and princesses…just a little unreal for the times, but it is the same in Spain although our royals don’t get as much attention until they f* up like they’ve been doing lately.
Oh well, the poor little guy will be privileged in many ways but will also have to live under a microscope always, in a golden cage as we say.

I also think it must be very difficult to be living your life with a set of values that became obsolete a century ago, that the rest of the country abandoned.and moved on and your every move to be dictated by “advisors” as if you are unable to make a decision for yourself.
To her credit I think Diana tried to change that with her boys and Wills and Harry seem to try to escape it. Even Prince Charles, in marrying Camilla rebelled against the system. Good for him. In the grand scheme of things , people were too busy living their own lives to be overly concerned with the morality of whether an ageing Prince finally wanted to marry a woman he had loved for half a century. I was on my Baltics cruise when he was born. There was a British couple at my dinner table and I was definitely more excited about the pending birth than they were. It’s nice to see that Kate and Will seem genuinely happy together. Charles seems more relaxed since he’s married Camilla.
