Being socially phobic. ie I get anxious with gatherings of more than about six people, I dislike Christmas dos. Plus I don’t drink alcohol, so while I do socailise, after midnight when there is alcohol involved, everybody seems to me to get really silly. It seems to me me that these are just events that everyone, gets drunk and behaves in an embarrassing way…. or maybe this is just a British thing. The French seem to drink much more responsibly.
This is not as puritan as it sounds, I have had my time of getting drunk and behaving in a way I would rather forget. But no more.
……… Or maybe I am just a miserable so and so!LOL!
So I have my own Christmas dos with my friends Last week three of us had dinner in an Italian restaurant and today I am having lunch with Lizzietheveggie before she fly s off to spend some pre Christmas time with her daughter inn Belfast and I have two more Christmas lunches planned with freinds next week.
Lizzietold me about the Christmas do at our joint place of work, last week at a place called the Warehouse near the Trafford centre. Where ( surprise!) an huge old wharehouse has been converted into a party venue, Christmas winter wonderland, complete with fairground rides, casino and circus acrobats performing. She told me the food was wonderful and the service impeccable.
I was on a training day the next morning and half the participants were either ill or absent as well as a couple of the trainers! But it sounded really good.

I enjoy a drink and always thought of myself as fairly sociable but I have to admit that organised “dos”, especially at Christmas, leave me cold. I’d much rather enjoy a nice dinner or lunch with a few friends than spend (waste?) several hours eating mass catered food and drinking expensive drinks with a load of people I don’t necessarily like. That sounds awful but after many years of feeling obliged to attend, often paying more than I could really afford, I eventually learnt that it was ok to opt out and felt much better for it.
I’m looking forward to food and drinks with the princess and her flatmate this evening and lunch with you tomorrow, and then a few quiet days before the first born and his girl friend arrive.
