When I visited the Pompidou with my son, who's the artist in the family, he told me to stop looking at the descriptions of the paintings and to simply "feel" them. According to him, great art touches something inside us and creates an emotion, which seems to be exactly what happened when you saw Gerhard Richter's painting. My problem is that I always over think art. Maybe I need to go see this exhibition! It was very thoughtful of Michael to remember your response and propose that you go see Gerhard Richter's other works.

That first painting sure is beautiful, and his other works look arresting, too. I haven't been to the Musee d'Arte Moderne yet, but I was saddened to read that 5 paintings (by Picasso, Matisse, and other big names) were stolen from there in 2010. I hope they are recovered some day.
