jubilee queen / river pageat

HEROINES OF THE DAY.

These ladies were the heroines of the Jubilee river Pageant yesterday.  Hours of hair and make up ruined by the rain, they abandoned their umbrellas and sang a rousing chorus of Land of Hope and Glory and God save the Queen.

Bridge over troubled water: the singers could see members of the Royal family swaying in time to their music – at one point they couldn’t hear the orchestra due to the rain - Royal College of Music Chamber Choir: Grit and determination kept us singing

Hope this link works.
Keep calm and carry on!

  1. Agreed! That was beautiful! A rousing rendition of which even a non-Royalist can approve. The manner in which they sang in the rain just added a wonderful element of courage to it.

  2. I got shivers listening to "God Save the Queen" sung under such circumstances. The choir did an excellent job and handled the inclement weather with real grace. Not to take anything away from the momentous occasion, but here's an irreverent clip about the Jubilee from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. As you so correctly said on "Any Port", you're probably better off without us!http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-june-4-2012/the-queen-who-stares-at-boats

  3. Mary Kay, Unfortunately that video will not play in the UK. but a google search brought up a lot of different interesting opinions. Not sure which comment on "Any Port" you are referring to. I don't remember mentioning the jubilee there. Love Denise

  4. Sorry for the confusion. Your comment wasn't about the Jubilee, it was in response to nycgirl's remark about the freedom trail. I only meant that you're (England) probably better without us (Americans) because of the video clip. I wasn't sure how much a Brit would appreciate Americans making fun of such a momentous occasion.

  5. Mary Kay…I don't mind people making fun of Royalty in a nice way, as long as it is not nasty. We do it here all the time. Self depreciating is a way of life! I don't know if the comments were nice fun or nasty fun, maybe as well! However I am very careful NOT to comment on other democracies, political systems, as I don't have a vote in them, I feel it is none of my business. I am just am observer. So ( particularly during the Royal wedding) I got annoyed at Americans who felt they had a right to criticise our political system. Often without really understanding it. As the monarchy does not use their political power, it just serves to prevent other factions becoming too powerful. The American critics don't have a vote and it does not cost them anything so they have no right to judge. After all no system is perfect.Love Denise

  6. I just watched the clip from the Stewart Daily Show and frankly, I am quite embarrassed by what I saw! Jon Stewart is in the comedy business but in my opinion, this clip is not comedy!! – it's just plain mean-spirited!! I apologize for his actions!

  8. I'll try to look for it on YouTube and e-mail to you – wonder if that would work?? I'll try it and see what happens. You won't like it at all!! It's quite idiotic and unflattering to the Royal Family – I meant it when I said I was embarrassed by what I saw – didn't even finish watching the clip as I was getting upset – don't know what he was thinking!!! Not funny at all!!!
