One thing I had not expected, was the change in temperature between Tallinn and Helsinki, or maybe I was unwell and tired. So although it looks sunny and nice, there was a cold Baltic breeze blowing in from the sea. We were told it is “unseasonably warm” for Hesinki in May! but even with my thick coat and a sweater I was still cold….if I ever come here again I will bring a winter coat , scarf,hat gloves etc.
In the morning we browsed the market near the harbour. Lots of food ready to eat. Predictably lots of fresh fish dishes. Although after the huge breakfast in the Hotel I was not hungry.
Who say Finnish people are dour?
The price of food was probably double that of Tallinn
Beautiful leather bags. Possibly Reindeer.
Certainly reindeer skin hats for cold Baltic winters.
We watched a classic moped rally.
Then we caught a tram T3 from near the Esplanade, and using a leaflet we got from the tourist information office we rode around the route for a guided tour of the city.
We stopped at the Stockmans department store.
Not quite galleries Lafayette.
but the food hall rivalled Harrods! Where we had coffee and cake.

I spent some of the day sleeping as I felt unwell, but in the afternoon we found more music at the bandstand on the Esplanade from this military band.
Must have been something important as we saw it on the TV news when we got back to Tallinn that evening. However we were amused at the restrained applause for these fantastic musicians!

Finally we ate in this excellent buffet cafe, before leaving for the port
We had not counted on Friday night on the Baltic princess!
